Hey there! I’m Laynie, the heart behind Baked By Laynie, where every cookie is crafted with love and a sprinkle of creativity. As a wife and mom to two—plus our furry friend Bear—I know how important those special moments are.
My journey into baking began during a challenging time in our lives when I was searching for a way to reconnect with myself. With guidance from my mom and sister, I turned my passion for decorating into a business, starting with cake pops and eventually perfecting my sugar cookies. Each batch is made not only to satisfy a sweet tooth, but to become a cherished part of your unforgettable celebrations—whether it’s a bridal shower, baby shower, or a first birthday. Join me as I share my baking process, tips, and the joy of creating memorable treats that make your moments even sweeter!
Now that you know a bit about my journey and passion for baking, let’s dive into one of the key elements that keeps my cookie creations on track...
Baking + Kitchen Organization
Staying organized in the kitchen is crucial for any baker, and it can make all the difference in the cookie-making process. A tidy workspace not only keeps things running smoothly but also allows for creativity to flow freely. I get it—organizing all your baking supplies can feel a bit daunting, especially if you’re short on space. But trust me, it’s totally doable! One of my go-to tips is to use clear storage containers for your ingredients. They keep everything visible and easy to grab, plus they help keep things fresh. Don’t forget to label them! It’ll save you time and make sure you grab the right ingredient without a second thought.
A rolling cart is one of my secret weapons for keeping my cookie decorating process fast and efficient! Having a dedicated space for all my essential tools and supplies makes it so much easier to dive into decorating without scrambling around the kitchen. On my cart, you’ll find everything from detail brushes to sprinkles and edible glitter—all within easy reach. If you don’t have a rolling cart yet, I highly recommend adding one to your baking setup—it can truly streamline your decorating process and make everything feel more organized and accessible!
Another essential piece in my kitchen is my wire rack, which is a fantastic space-saver! I use it to store my baking sheets, rolling pin, and packing boxes, keeping everything organized and out of the way. The open design makes it easy to grab what I need quickly, and it maximizes vertical space in my cookie room. If you’re looking to save some room while keeping your baking essentials accessible, a wire rack is definitely a smart addition!

Cookie Making Process
With an organized kitchen, it's time to shift our focus to my cookie-making process.
Setting the stage is key for a smooth baking experience! First, I make sure my counter space is clean and clear, giving me plenty of room to work my magic.

Then, I gather all my materials—like measuring cups, mixing bowls, ingredients, and my favorite gadgets. I can’t live without my stand mixer, which makes mixing dough a breeze. With everything prepped and organized, I’m ready to dive into baking and create some delicious cookies!

These are some of my favorite baking essentials, I never bake without a good set of quality pans, my KitchenAid mixer, high-quality extracts like almond or vanilla, and, of course, a trusty, rolling pin.

Cookie Making Process
Every batch starts with rolling out the dough to the perfect thickness. This is where precision really matters—too thick, and the cookies won’t bake evenly; too thin, and they might lose their shape. I roll my dough on a lightly floured surface, using my trusty rolling pin (a must-have for any baker!) to ensure everything is smooth and even.
You can cut your dough into any shape you like using your favorite cookie cutters—whether it's classic circles or something fun and unique, the choice is yours!

Make sure to space your cookies evenly on the baking sheet so they bake uniformly and don’t stick together as they spread. A good rule of thumb is to leave about two inches between each cookie. Also, don't forget to chill your dough if you want sharper edges and less spreading!
Now it's time for the oven. Timing is everything—bake too long, and they’ll be dry; too short, and they’ll be undercooked. It's best to take them out right as the edges start to turn golden. This way, they’ll stay soft in the center while having that perfect slight crunch on the outside.
Once the cookies are done and have that beautiful golden edge, they're ready for the next step: decorating, where the magic truly happens!
Cookie Decorating
Before I start decorating, I always get my piping bags ready, picking out the right tips depending on the design—whether I need fine lines or bigger sections filled in. I love mixing food dye with the icing to get the perfect shades, and I keep my scribe tool close for those tiny details that really make the cookies stand out.
When it comes to decorating, I rely on a few key tools: my projector (plus a stand for it), disposable piping bags, wax paper, and a scribe. An artist is only as great as their tools, right?

Packing Orders + Cookies
Once the decorating is done, it’s time to pack up the cookies! I take great care in wrapping each order to ensure that every delicious creation arrives in perfect condition.
I use sturdy boxes to keep the cookies safe during transit; making sure they’re as beautiful when they reach your doorstep as they were when they left my kitchen.
Thank you for stepping into my baking journey with me! I hope this inspires you to create your own sweet memories in the kitchen. Remember, every cookie has a story, and I’m thrilled to be a part of yours! Now, as a final treat, let’s dive into my ultimate baking favorites!
